JBL LE8T-2 - Enclosures

Hi Guys

I wonder if anyone can help me. I am looking at undertaking a project using a pair of JBL LE8T-2 FR units and struggling to find plans for a suitable enclosure. I have seen these units used in 2 way speakers but wanted to know if they can be used as full range single units.

All help gratefully appreciated

in the old days, the classic double bass reflex cabinet with 2:1 chamber ratios and three identical size vents by George Augspurger was popular. That cabinet was also, IIRC, described by R.N. Marsh in Speaker Builder magazine. Hornresp models that type under "ABC" ("Aperiodic Bi-Chamber".

Old thread, I know, but just in case someone happens on this thread looking for good information, I would like to add a couple of notes.

The JBL LE8T and LE8T-H are basically the same aquaplassed cone full range driver, the first being Alnico, the second ferrite. The voice coil is underhung, and it is really quite a nice speaker. This is the speaker which is featured in many JBL catalogues in the '60's and '70's, maybe into the '80's, is used in the L44 with a drone cone and can be mounted in a 3.3 cu ft cabinet for 30Hz to 15k full range performance as described in the JBL Pro enclosure guide.

The JBL LE8T-2 is a quite different driver. It is the woofer used in the JBL S-109 Omni-directional towers with an LE-20-1 tweeter mounted in a diffuser. This driver is identical to the JBL 2115 full range marketed for distributed sound systems. This speaker's cone is not aquaplassed and the moving mass is about two thirds that of the LE8T. The parameters of both the LE8T/H and the 2115 are listed in the JBL T/S charts if you want to study the significant differences between these two drivers.

If that's not enough confusion, there is also a very early LE8 which I believe is also not aquaplassed. It can be seen in some of the early catalogues in the JBL library at the Audio Heritage website.
