By chance, I clicked on a link that took me to the product page for the JBL 4312E 'bookshelf monitor'. While there, I noticed the mktg mentions how the speaker has Differential Drive® patented driver design.

Because I'm curious, I went to look up the patent atGoogle Patents US5748760A which was filed April 18, 1995. But looking at the status, it looks like the patent has expired.

Can someone more familiar with patent law explain the phrase "Application status is Expired - Lifetime" 😕

Kind regards,
Drew

It's just what you would expect, the patent has expired because it has reached the time limit.
Patents have a maximum life, it varies from country to country, but this one simply reached its end.
So why do they mention the patent? - to let you know it was their idea, and a smart one.

Best wishes
David
