you can't go wrong for the lundahl opt , the normal not the amorphous
I have the ll1623 work fine vs a custom amorphous opt , is upper mid range opt , the james is very good mid-low level opt probabily a copy of tango....
before the top one tamura/tango there is Hashimoto scure a good one....
top custom:
tribute
intact audio
Onetics
some like nikel better then amorphous .....

Hashimoto better on the paper ,for what I haved read in italian forum is very very good and on AA
with upgraded amourphus opt I gain a lot nuance , but I suspect I will have more musical gain changing my amphom wax for duelund ones ....opt can put out only what in😛 ...is only a piaces of amp sound
I have emission lab 300bxls a good tube...

Hammond only and they suck. Im going to build a new amp shortly using Bartolucci transformers, got 35kg of them waiting 🙂
I have both the Tamura F5002 amorphous and the Magnequest DS-025 and I never feel like I am listening to second best with the Magnequest. For the 2A3 the Magnequest is spectacular, for the 300B the 3k ohm F5002 Tamura is superb. The 1626 probably should be used with a 5k ohm primary though. Magnequest makes a DS-050, but I haven't heard it. For $400 I don't see how one could go wrong with the Magnequest.
Lundahl make its own double C-core, even in amorphous material.
james don't tell anything about it. (0.35 lam. like pt transformer 😕).

don't worry james is a best buy for the price and sound good...
the lundahl AM price is in the upper range, hashimoto/tango/tamura....
personal taste.....

To save starting a new thread...
I'm laying out my new project with some James 6228HS, and wondering about orientaion compared with my drop through power transformer. Ive seen pictures of amps with the power transformer orientated in line, and at 90 degrees to James transformers. Does it not matter as they are potted?
I'm searching for an old pair of headphones to find experiment myself, but I thought it was worth an ask.
Thanks.

The potting medium will not have ferrous properties, so will have no effect on the magnetic field, radiated or received. Thus you will still want to pay attention to orientation.
Just saw a pic of Sy's RLD, I think i'll copy him... he's a clever chap.
I built an RLD with Fisher output iron, I also really enjoy how it sounds!
While we're reviving old threads, does anyone have a source for some James push-pull OPTs? Or, does anyone have a pair to sell? I am looking for an 8K primary, so I think the JS-6228H is the right model.
