I am modifying some old ML Aeons using the GRS dipole mid/tweeter attached to a 250x250mm 3mm alloy or copper plate. (the speaker is mounted to the rear of the plate so this should be as thin as possible and 3mm seems like a good compromise)
I am undecided whether to bolt this plate to the baffle or isolate it using 25x10mm neoprene foam strips and just screw it on the long edges to the Aeons frame.
The protoype below shows the speaker front mounted.
Which is best - isolate or bolt to the baffle?

I think the most important isolation to perform is isolating the midrange from the baffle. The baffle and enclosure radiates most in the midrange. But I think it needs some tweaking and measurements to get right.
Thanks, my thinking too.I think the most important isolation to perform is isolating the midrange from the baffle. The baffle and enclosure radiates most in the midrange. But I think it needs some tweaking and measurements to get right.
I have been taking some measurement with REW and comparing the one converted Aeon with an unmodified one (albeit with lower ES panel output).
I will post the freq response captures when I have mounted the GRS speaker (with isolation).
