Why not - they are still operating in phase and not out of phase, either when mounted magnet to magnet or cone to cone. I prefer mine doggy stile.
Any advantage re distortion should still benefit any of the configs.

The reduction in non-linearities only comes when the drivers are operated push-pull (ie drivers move air in phase, but one is mechanically moving in, the other out). The Linn isobariks have the drivers facing the same way so don't get a gain here (they are still fine sounding speakers thou and inspired a lot of my late 70s early 80s designs).
