ISO driver selection advice for ~1 liter single driver desktop speaker with PR

Alright I'm using:

TB W3-1878
.04 cu/ft knockdown enclosures
Two ND65-PR per speaker

Then software EQ or hardware DSP for a high pass filter and hope to get output into the 50's HZ range at low volumes.

Disclaimer: I might not completely know what I'm doing :tilt:

it doesn't look like this driver will work well at all for digging deep, it's Qts is way too low. Go for a driver with at least 0,6 Qts for being able to actually going below Fs. The one on the article is a good example (fountek FR89EX), and it's problematic 10k resonance can be also solved easily via DSP.

It's already ~16 dB down, so tuning it lower will just roll off more of what little [mid] bass output you have and reducing weight will make a steeper roll off with a flatter lower mids output.

In short, the box volume [Vb] dictates the amount of [mid] bass with Fs the corner frequency, hence best overall tuning frequency, which by coincidence it has as is [simmed].

This assumes a T/S max flat alignment though, so for a low Qts driver it would be a higher tuning, which simmed with equal amplitude impedance peaks = ~111 Hz Fb = four PRs to get a very slightly under-damped ~123 Hz/F3, which gets you almost all of the vocals and enough of the ~100-175 Hz 'boom/punch' BW plus more power handling for a bit more EQ fine tuning, so pretty good overall for such a small box except for the extra parts/labor expense.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it will work but if I want more bass other options could be better. I might have to learn how to use hornsrep and see what other drivers could be a good fit. I mostly based my preference of that TB on the low FS and wide frequency response range, and also the hope that it will actually sound good without a tweeter. Also most speakers say to use a much larger enclosure.

Hmm, good luck with that, 'color' me done.

Luck would probably help. Basically all I’m asking is what’s the closest to a full range single driver speaker I can make with this box. It sounds like I’ll either have to compromise the highs or the bass. The ND91 seems promising but I actually do have pretty good high frequency hearing and I am especially sensitive to distortion so I’m not completely sold on it.

If this wasn’t for my desk top at work I’d definitely be looking at other options.
