I was reading on the www that a foward firing sub lifted on feet with the port pointed at the floor .

Does a better job that a foward firing sub sitting on the floor with the port pointing out the front or back of the box ? right or not . if right why would it be better ?

Hi,
A sub sends bass signal all around and it makes little difference which direction it is pointing in.
The port sometimes leaks mid frequency information with the result that a forward facing port can sound slightly distorted.
The downward facing sub can be spaced up from the floor by a variable distance. At small gaps the resistance due to this gap can affect how the speaker reacts and thus affect the sound.
I believe some subs can benefit from experimentation in this area.
Try it with small spacers & let us know the results.

With rear firing it depends on how close it is to the wall. Downfiring has potential to mask turbulence and can also be designed to lower the tuning by the use of the clearance under to extend the effective length of the vent - in some subs this is an integral part of the design.

I doubt there is any real difference in how it couples to the room gain however.
