Is this how to measure mains DC garbage with my Fluke?

There is a function on the Fluke 287 which I have never used regarding displaying both the AC and DC component at the same time. What I want to do is check how much garbage DC I have on my home mains, at various times, I just want to verify and know what kind of power I do have at home here.

Attached is a screen shot of the page in the Fluke manual.

Would this reading be giving me information as to how much DC offset there is in my home, if any? Or is it measuring something completely different.

Currently it has DC flickering from .01 to zero. I suppose I could try it at various times of the day.

A DC component on a purely AC mains supply is caused by a current load that draws more power from one half of an AC voltage supply and develops an average DC component .


IE- a domestic appliance that uses a half power switch that causes operation on one half of the RMS cycle only.



If you are only getting a volt or so I would not worry about it.


Why are you not worried about the amount of AC garbage /noise /RF/HF etc usually found on "dirty mains " ?


On the UK help website I was on this was a major problem when related to broadband speed due to long wiring acting like an aerial and causing inducted RF from every type of communications device that normally resides in a home like a DECT phone system and many other household gadgets .


The blame was put on the ISP when it was caused by the customer themselves.
