I have an old Magnavox CDB650 CD player. It was supposed to be good when it came out. Does anyone know anything about it? Any tweaks?

I have one (magnavox):
cdm2: transport, no metal, hard to find for replacement (?)
chipset: SAA7210, SAA7220, TDA1541 (first implementation, no A)
powersupply: ~5 78xx
case: crap plastic (take the top off and lift up one corner...).
There is an extra pcb with a secondary output: put the display powersupply on a sep. small pcb and take it out. Lots of space then to play around.
I have the service manual, but it is in dutch. Could give you the schematics, drop me a mail.
All in all, nothing special.... But a great player to use as source for experiments with own dacs: space and i2s signals available.
Greetings,
GuidoB

Philips CD650
Hi Vic,
Maybe you find this interesting:

Guido did you make a new PCB just for the display's powersupply?
I was thinking of cutting the filter/display-powersupply PCB in two in order to make room for my mods!
😱 🙂

Elso,
I don't think Vic can read German... But anyway, it more or less says it is the first player with 7210/7220/tda1541. So the old version of the chipset.
And yes, i put the display powersupply on a small pcb and took out the additional analog output. Lots of room to put diy in.
In the past there was an eringa geluid cd40 output there, if anyone remembers/knows that..

And check out the post on the cdm4, it seems that this model of cdm4 CAN replace a cdm2! So i have a spare transport now, yeha!
