After reading a lot of threads I still have the question if there is a consensus whether the 3875 is better than the 3886. This when the current capability of the 3875 is sufficient.
The specs of the 3886 indicate lower THD and IMD than the 3875, but I know that specs don't always reflect the real performance.

the LM3875 does seem to have a cult following. I tend to prefer the 3875, but use the 3886 for bass drivers in biamping, there it's always nice to have the extra current capability.
I have now got samples of LM3886 but I have never listened to any Gainclnoe yet. I have a strong hunch that LM3875 isn't a bit better than LM3886, on the contrary. Normally a more expensive IC usually is better
.......think many people.

Or it is other factors like volume, generation, maker and such that give the price. I wonder what you mean by saying that the more expensive part is the better in this case and then that 3886 could be the better one...:
Farnell: LM3875 CHF 11.55, LM3886 CHF 8.90 -> LM3886 is cheaper.
RS: LM3875 SEK 62, LM3886 SEK 57 -> LM3886 is cheaper.
