I need a woofer for my project but need something very unusual. Because building a completely new woofer is incredibly expensive I wonder if there is a supplier for good woofers where you can make individual changes? Big brands don't always build new drivers, they use drivers that can be adapted for their purposes(even if that happens with other capital and other amounts, of course).
Danley Sound Labs among others use Misco and Eminence did it at one time, but no clue if they still do and I imagine there's still minimum quantities. There use to be one in Canada? that advertised on the forums that they would even do a single, but can't recall the company and haven't seen any ads for this type service in a long time.
Was it Audio Technologies that used to do it? You could chose your cone, motor, spider, and surround and they would make it to your spec.. mind you, it was outrageously expensive,

It is Audio Technology in Denmark that can make what you want. Very pricey but extremely well made to your spec . It’s the Flex units you should ok at.

I found this site a while back, they sell all the parts to make your own subwoofer driver, though I am not sure how you work out what t/s parameters the subwoofer is going to have (apart from measuring after assembly)

As a (guitar) speaker manufacturer: nobody will make "any" speaker you wish, that´s commercially impossible,specilly because they will not have the parts available.
What some can offer is give you a "menu" showing all frames, magnets, cones, voice coils, etc. they DO have in stock , you ´pick what you want from that list, mix and match as far as technically possible, and then they assemble it.
Even so it´s expensive , they are "stopping the Factory" for you, to make a single one.

You can modify existing speakers in two ways: Add wheight to the cone to lower resonance frequency and glue magnet rings to the motor to improve magnetic strength.
I can not think of a case where you could not find something matching somwhere on the chassis market. From car HIFI to PA you find any extreme you can think of.

Hmm. FYI/FWIW, way when, Altec had a little area set aside to do prototypes, build per specs of exact replacements such as I had done, customs, plus there was no extra charge and the distributor confirmed specs while I watched, so seems reasonable to assume these folks would at least do customs this way.
You can also spray very thin / diluted glue on the cone or the spider to adjust different parameters.
