Is there a way to find out your preamp/RCA voltage with a multimeter?

I have a 2v alpine and think it goes to 35 or so. I only run it to 17 because the volume is much faster that way. I hate buttons for volume, and I have no noise problems I can detect. Even my amps are only up about 1/3. I do have an EQ that might boost it don't know but do not think so. I ran that HU on another crossover and it worked the same way, used to run it to 27 but takes forever to turn volume up/down. Pretty sure volume would be a linear taper so you would only see max power at the highest settings right? I traced a signal into an amp and had to turn the HU way up to even see it.
