Is there a reason why the output caps in this regulator don't match?

edit: AJT, the model is KA-8100. A 75wpc integrated amp that was (I believe) 2nd from TOTL in its time beneath the KA-9100

Mooly, the amp does have a speaker protection relay. The rails under discussion in this thread do not power the relay. They are only powering tone circuits and phono amp.

Well that blows that theory out of the water... maybe 🙂

A properly implemented speaker relay delay that also drops out quickly on power off should make the user immune to any odd behaviour going on internally.

So we are guessing now. Why was it done this way. Perhaps the theory still holds good and the basic design was done this way, to be as well behaved as possible.

Another reason could be more obscure, to prevent some kind of weird latching somewhere in the design that could occur if one (the 'wrong') rail appeared first and so they make 100% sure that can never happen by severely altering the time constants of the rail sequencing.

Without building the amp as a designer would we will never know. I think we have to accept that the design is probably correct and that we shouldn't alter that aspect though.
