Is there a colored equivalent to puzzle coat/modpodge?

What should I use to color (visually, not sonically!) a paper cone? I want to add a little flare to my NSB array once it's constructed. Since i'm going to puzzle coat them anyway, I thought I would color them as well. What could I use that wont adversely effect the cone mechanically and sonically? I was thinking a color coat of maybe acrylic paint, and puzzle coat on top of that.

Modpodge reacts with a some other paint types, making them precipitate. Try one of the art sites like wetcanvas.com and see if anyone has found an appropriate tinting agent. I love Modpodge BTW, it brings out the Martha in you.

I've mixed blue and red food coloring into yellow PVA glue to make grey cones black. Kids glues come in many bright colors now, so it may be worth sacrificing a few NSB's to experiment.
