I'm hoping to get recommendations on a budget speaker design.
What I'm looking for: (1) low cost (2) a complete design specifying drivers, enclosure design, crossover design
The application is a stereo pair, music, no separate sub, so I'm looking for something with good bass. Sensitivity can be low. Size not an issue. Complexity of construction not an issue.
Any forum cheapie favorites out there?

Try checking into Electronic surplus stores...
I've been finding real beauties in those for very cheap.
The only problem is that most of the drivers sold in those stores dont have specs of any kind... so you'd have to find the thiele-small parameters yourself.

The 480-1855 MT is hard to beat for $60.00 US for drivers and crossover parts.
Cabinet .28 ported1.5"X 4".

But, not THAT budget that I'd use surplus drivers. In fact, just the opposite, a proven design, built by more than 1 person and all the xover fiddling is done.
I just meant using inexpensive speakers, like the Stryke SA071 and MCM 1855 you mention. It doesn't have to be a 2 way, either, MTM's look good, mabe even 3-way. I mean something that has great reviews, such as the Dayton III.

You should define exactly what "budget" means to you.

If you give a little more info about exactly what you want to spend and exactly how low you want them to go(Hz), I'm sure you'll get a lot of help from the guys around here.

So I have to do some thinking before each investment,
and in that respect I have many alikes around the world.
We are in fact a mojority.
So if I build a speakersystem, I have chosen to put my reserach
and my money where it can make the most use.
and that is for me the MID-DRIVER.
Most sounds comes in that area, and that is the freq where
our ears are made to work the best.
So I try to find a good value MID, that can take
a wide freq-area. Say 250-4000Hz.
As complement I put somewhat lower priced Tweeter
at top
and somewhat lower priced BASS-Woofer at bottom.
This is how I try to get a good sounding Loudspeaker-system
for a reasonable money.

How about my ML TQWT using a Fostex FE-167E (FE-164 is discontinued), should cost about $250 to build.
