I would say the Tempest. It's more sensitive and requires less excursion to achieve the same output as the Shiva, and so distorts less, and it isn't much more expensive.
However, I have a feeling that the Sadhara or the Tumult would be much more musical down low - but they're probably out of your budget.

'Musical sub' is an oxymoron, either it can/can't reproduce its intended BW without audibly 'ringing' or compressing. LF 'musicality' is handled by the midbass/mids/HF system. Depending on the room and sub positioning, 0.4-0.6 sealed or low tuned EBS (~16-18Hz) gets the job done with either for all but some pipe organ and 1812 Overture type music.
To keep distortion low, I recommend limiting power to ~350W and using multiple drivers if it doesn't play loud enough for you, as well as a 4th order L-R XO at 100Hz max, and preferably 60-80Hz.

Generally, sealed boxes deliver what people might refer to as "musical" or "tight" bass. My opinion is that most bass reflex designs extend the flat anechoic response too far down for it to integrate well into a room. Room gain boosts the lower frequencies, so anechoic flat response down low can be problematic. Sealed enclosure roll off naturally in a way that most easily integrates with room gain. Similar results can be obtained with a bass reflex by mistuning the system (i.e., not a standard alignment).
On the Adire drivers: they are very good, and can be designed with the alignment to suit your tastes. I gather that you are on a budget. Shiva should give you what you're looking for. An upgrade on the Shiva is the DPL12, which about $50 more, and features an aerodynamic cast basket design, optimised for dipole applications.

Hello,
Just yesterday I cranked the volume up to '11' and listened to Toccata en Fugue, with my EBS-aligned Tempest doing <50hz. Pretty stunning sound, and without the Tempest, it would be boring. I do not really enjoy much music without my sub, which is certainly an indication that it can be musical 🙂
Just use it for as low frequencies as possible, coming in under your main speakers' natural roll-off.
...also yesterday, whilst the parents weren't in, I wanted to look for room rattles, and my word, some of the noises the room makes when you play a 20hz 1/3 octave tone!!! ...ear next to the sub shows no audible distortion, no matter how high I turn the volume up, within reason. Things rattling always drown out any such distortion. It's weird when you've not experienced it before, but 20hz doesn't feel so much like vibrations, but more like being wobbled and shaken, its so cool! 🙂
WRT room gain and excessive low bass, this won't likely be an issue with very low bass, as the human ear is so insensitive to it, and it rarely crops up in music in significant amounts. To hear 20hz I have to turn the sub up to a level that concerns me for the safety of my plate amp. 35hz and up is where you may run into problems.
Just so long as your sub integrates smoothly with your mains, (hopefully you have no room mode problem in this critical area) then you will find musicality, I'm sure of it.
