Hi!🙂
I have been searching the net to find the datasheet of the PE8001A dac in my Pioneer cd-player without finding it. Then I found the datasheet of the BB PCM1716 and both the pin layout and the internal block diagram is identical.
http://www-s.ti.com/sc/ds/pcm1716.pdf
Is the Pioneer dac just a PCM1716 with pioneer wrapping?
I hope not, haven`t heard much good things about the 1716!
Anybody know if this is the same chip?
Thanks
Tor Martin🙂

Does Legato link not refer to the filter part of the conversion process rather than the actual DAC used? Same as what others call up-sampling. That's what I thought. The filter uses a Pioneer proprietary algorithm, aka Legato Link, for the up-sampling/interpolation and then feeds the ordinary DAC with that data. In the Hi-Bit version it simply means that the DAC chip is more than 16 bits...
Hi!
Thanks for answering!🙂
UrSv and hjelm, you are probably right. The "High bit" chip in this player is a 16 pin dip chip infront of the dac. Pioneer was ahead of time and had this upsampling chip in way before everybody else started raving about it!
I guess that the datasheet for the 1716 is valid for the Pioneer dac aswell.
Thanks
