Is my stock stereo obsolete, or can it handle my needs?

it may be in your best interest to get a aftermarket deck. I do not know any of the specs like if it has any type of inputs for a factory disc changer or anything like that. search for this information if it has a cd changer input then you can usually make a wiring harness to emmulate a cd changer but this is not really something for a newbie to attempt. and it would require a wiring diagram for the cd changer harness and decent amount of knowledge on how the deck acknowledges the presence of a changer. .

You can use the oem as long as it has a cd changer input. It looks like the one on ebay does have it. PAC makes a haarness and box for that aplication seen here

Look for the aplication that fits you car(they have one for 96-99 sunfire)
You have to take the head unit out and plug the adapter into the back of the deck where a changer plug would go. As i recall taking that radio out requires taking off the dash pad that is attached by 7mm screws that are located on both sides of the dash as well as 2 in the glove box and some others that I cant remember. then you run the ipod cable out somewhere where you can plug the ipod into.
The problem is these boxes and adapter usually cost as much as a deck with aux rca inputs.
