Is my NAD C300 dead?

Hello. My NAD C300 amplifier has gone wrong.

At any volume, the sound is very quiet and extremely distorted. Have tried connecting it to several different inputs and sets of speakers.
There is no sound at all coming from the headphone socket.

Had a quick chat with the guy at my local HIfi specialist. Could be the output stage? He said any repair is likely to be £85+ (£30 just to open up & look at it). I know that's more than the unit is worth. (Also they're not taking on any repairs at the moment).
Would it be worth opening it up myself to try and work out what's wrong in there? I am in Manchester but couldn't find any Hifi clubs or societies to join.

It is part of my old/second system, so not a huge problem. Just seems a shame to bin it.

If it was a speaker relay, would it still produce a muffled output - also it seems the issues affects both channels, would it be unusual for both to go at once?
To the OP, see if you can find someone locally to help you give it a look over, it can be daunting troubleshooting a technical fault if you don't know what you are doing.
