Recently i finished my Lilliput DIY projector case and come to find out when i turned it on the screen was completly black, no picture but it did turn on. After further investigation i discovered that the small ribbon running from the LCD itself to the little controller board was torn. Since i cant see being able to replace that cable is the LCD junk now? Is there some kind of pinned connector that can repair it or is it possible to just get the part number for the LCD and Ribbons???? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading.

If it's socketed you may be able to replace it. Search using the term FFC and you can find more information here. Seems to happen a lot.
I believe your thinking of the ribbon that runs from the main input board to the small circuit board(this is the one im calling the controller board). The ribbon that tore is the one that runs from the small circuitboard to the LCD itself. Please help!

I think you're pretty much SOL. However, do a forum search for "anisotropic". Go from there if you wish, if not, then you can experiment with your LCD, having about a .01% chance of fixing it (assuming the FFC cable from LCD to board really is torn).
P.S.: is the cable torn off of the lcd, or is it cut in between? If it's cut in between, I myself would probably use some electrical tape or something to hold it in place. It almost certainly wouldn't work, but do you have any other options?

Thanks for the reply. It is torn in between. I was thinking maybe if i could take some acetone and rub off the coating of one side on each end of the ribbon i could clamp them together with a pair of needle nose pliers. Then maybe heat of the pliers so it would "fuse" together. Ill give it a try when i get a free moment. This sucks...

That must suck. 🙁 Glad it didn't happen to me, I guess you got the luck of the draw. Regarding clamping the two pieces of cable together, that may work for all I know, but keep in mind that the cables are made up of hundreds of small wires (I believe about 50 nanometers in width, if I remember correctly), so that will make it harder to do.
Yes exactly! except mine is not torn completely. In one spot it looks like two traces are torn and in another spot slightly further down the ribbon on the other side it looks like one is torn. Ill try to get pics! thanks!

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Finally got an image hosted. Sorry its a little blurry because of focus limitations!
The two spots are circled.
Also not sure if the image will be too big.

try again with better focus...? The image is not too big, but also not too useful, due to the poor focus. Seriously.
Ok, sorry guys i dont have a great digital camera on hand but i will try to find one to get a better picture!

This is a great chance to practice with your own camera. Does it have a close-up mode (something with a flower icon usually)?
Bitaddict, if you want to drive down to Sterling Heights, I can take some good quality pics for you.
