This question pertains to an RCA model WA-504B/44D Audio Generator, and whether I should have left it in the heap I got it from, or if I've rescued an important peice for my audio hobby...

According to what I've been able to find, it's an audio generator and an 8w amp that will make from 20Hz to 200kHz in either sinewave or squarewave. My best guesses place this as one of the earlier ones, produced in 1974, and serial numbered #2050.

Any information as to this item and it's particular uses (other than my thought of breaking in new drivers) please let me know.

i would keep it around -- if you ever get into building active circuits or crossovers, use that with a scope or even an ac mutlimeter and u have a decent amount of testing power at your hands, and can test your circuitry for linearity and such

Yeah i second that its cant do any hard having a signal generator at hand. Although you can get computer programs that will give you square, sine waves they wont give you much high frequencies of any decent authenticity to the thing your trying to simulate as its digital, and as you approach nyquist the waveform doesnt really resemble a sine wave anymore.

Infact if you dont find any use for it im sure if you post it on ebay as some wonderful vintage product of yore, some schmuk will buy it anyway.

I always laugh at all the vintage stuff sold on ebay, I know there must be some market for that stuff, but more often then not you could get MUCH better getting a new item.
