Is it the projector? The lense? The Bulb?

Just got my Apollo AI-1000 OHP today.

It works.

It's noisy.

It's dusty

It's dirty as hell.

None of that is the problem however. Being that I am rather new at this whole thing I have to ask these questions.....

Okay, I projected the light onto my white wall. It's VERY bright which is good, but the problem is that I have a very noticeable rainbow ring effect around the entire image (Red, blue Yellow). The rainbow colors are not strong, but if you've ever seen a rainbow in the distance then you know what I'm talking about. The Fresnel inside the projector bed is very old and beat up, of course since this is an old projector.

Keep in mind however that the room was lit by sunlight coming through closed curtains also..... I don't know how much of a difference it makes for this rainbow effect.

So is this rainbow ring effect around the image coming from the bulb or from a reflection on the inside of the glass area of the projector?

OR

Is it coming from the projection lense?

Is this rainbow ring around the image common?

Besides retrofitting for a new bulb grade, is there a way to remedy this intrusion?

OR

Is this not noticeable once the LCD panel is on the OHP?

Anyone have any ideas?

Rainbow effects are caused by refraction of the light.
OHP's with singlet lenses and 'refurbished' OHP's where the 1st surface mirrors have been replaced by ordinary glass mirrors show these effects.
Check the path of your light from the bulb to the screen; anything it passes is suspect.

Well, I'm pretty certain it's not a refurb, cause this baby is just plain OLD. I mean dusty and the whole nine. Even the lense and reflection mirror is dirty and dusty, lol.

I also noticed that it's not only the reflection mirror that has a rainbow on it but also the lense itself.

I thought that this rainbow on lenses was common?

The lense is definitely a projection lense and it does have a rainbow in it just like the mirror does........

Could it be that both the mirror and lense are no good?

Nevermind.

It's the fresnel on the stage. It's shot to hell.

It's warped and worn, that's why it's giving me a rainbow effect. The lense and mirror are fine.

I took the fresnel off and checked the light from the lense and mirror and there was no rainbow. I put the fresnel back on and the rainbow came back.

Now I just need to find a place where I can buy an 11.25 x 11.25 Fresnel lens..........................
