I bought a nice Epson projector. Documentation and registration instructions are on CD. It is fine, they probably decided to save trees. But when I opened the CD I found Microsoft Windows executables instead of documentation and registration form. Is not it crazy? Do they mean that each and every client must buy Microsoft Windows in order to read the documentation and to register the projector?
Or may be Epson was bought by Microsoft, but I do not know that yet?

Get used to it. As a Mac user I know the symptom. As an example I can tell SSD firmware updates must be done on a Windows pc as the manufacturers don't even bother to make OS X capable software...
That's pretty lame, IMO. PDF would be the appropriate format for this.
Write to Epson and complain. Be nice about it, but complain. Corporations really do read the letters they get. Best to print it out and send it by mail. Everyone is swamped by email these days.

I sent them e-mail using their support form. May be it will help?

Hi!
I bought a projector. Wanted to read documentation and to register. Found CD instead of documentation and registration card. It's fine, you probably decided to save trees. But when I opened the CD I found that it is unisable: INSTEAD OF DOCUMENTATION IT CONTAINS MICROSOFT WINDOWS EXECUTABLE FILES.
Steps taken:
I went on your site, found "Registration" form, but the drop-down menu DOES NOT CONTAIN MY PROJECTOR MODEL NUMBER.
EPSON DID NOT MENTIONED IN THE ADVERTISEMENT HIDDEN COSTS ON PURCHASE OF MICROSOFT WINDOWS COMPUTER.

Maybe. I'd still take the time to write them a letter as a CD without PDFs is pretty stupid. Someone will get reamed for it. 😀
Mention the model number of the projector, when and where you bought it and that you would like documentation in a platform neutral format, such as PDF. There is no (good) reason they should not have supplied those.

The projector is really nice. However, when powered on it shows yellowish-green picture, but couple of minutes after it is crisp, and white balance is nice. However, I found PDF for it on their web-site, but still can't register. I selected "5020" model instead of "5010", and it swallowed my serial number with no problems. But what if I will need to contact them for support, how to prove that I bought it, but did not DIY? 🙂

LCD projectors have some a long way in the past few years. I would never have believed they would look as good as they do now. Not as good as DLP, but closer, for sure. Very watchable. Bright, too!
When I installed it instead of Sony VPL PX-30 the only word I could say, was "Wow!". I bought Sony projector back in 2005, it was not new then, but still very nice. I recall reading that it was about $9,000 when new. This Epson is hands down better. I never expected such quality picture from $2,800 projector. The main reason why I bought it, because of HDMI input. Also my wife wanted to see 3D movies. But honestly, I did not expect such improvement. Compared to my Sony it is quiet. Installation is easy. I fixed it right above heads, near the rear wall hanging from the ceiling, right in the middle of the screen horizontally. It has a nice feature to shift the lens using couple of dials, so the picture can be easy and perfectly adjusted for the screen. But it looks like despite of perfect keystone adjustment for 2D it is still not optimal for 3d, so it may be needs to be installed on the level in the middle of the screen vertically.

That's odd. Why would the keystone adjustment affect the 3D? You use it with active glasses, right?

Right, but with glasses I see 2 different boundaries, under 2 different angles.
OK, I gotta think about that one, I don't understand it. Electronic keystone "should" affect the the whole geometry mapping. That should be the same for the left and right images in a time multiplexed 3D system.
Maybe the Epson is doing something I don't know about.

Got Reply from techsupport. They have documenation and registration form on their site, but not so easy to find. It would be great to have a small paper in the box with URLs, instead of big red banner suggesting to run the CD first.

- Is it result of total debilism on Epson, or Microsoft paid them money for that?
