Is it possible to improve a commercial speaker ?

I agree with pico, spikes couple the loudspeaker enclosure to the floor, much like the bridge of a guitar or piano couples the vibrations of strings to the sound board. On the whole therefore, spikes are a bad idea. Much better to place your loudspeakers on some kind of vibration absorbing material.

I think that 611 is a 2,5-way, not 3-way design, in which bass helps mid-bass as they work in parallel up to 400Hz and then the bass is cut off. The 2,5-way design may appear as more complex load to the amplifier than 3-way, so this should also be taken into account in your setup.

Hi and thanks a lot. This is very interesting and also worrying.
I did not know this. By instinct i would prefer a proper 3-ways design.
In the end if the DC woofer is cut below 400 Hz does not contribute at all to the low bass.
We say in Italy " to each one is own duty ".
If the box were not so small the lower woofer would fly to leave the place at a serious 10" ... and that would be another story completely.

On your first photo, the loudspeakers are on the floor. I don't know if it is just for photography, but they should be placed on stands or decoupled from the floor with spikes

Thanks for the advice. I like robust stands.
The cabinets feel a little too light.
But wood works scare me. They are not an easy task.
Thanks again, gino

There's always the option of a compliant mounting, as in a spring, deliberately tuned so that the mass-spring systm effectively isolates .....and then add damping material to maintain control......effectively only the inertia of the speaker cab stops it from moving, but it does indeed seem to stay put IME.
