Is it live... or is it Memorex... you decide

Just listened a moment ago, without reading on to the spoilers - lucky me, managed to not stuff up the assessment ... 😉

Thanks for listening. All the results and impressions are most valuable.

First thing I noted on Atlas was the poorly defined brush on the drums, almost sounding like pink-noise....or is it white noise, never can remember which is which.

Hi Richard, appreciate you giving them a listen. The CFB opamps seemed to generate a negative listening impression for many despite a scope check showing them to be exemplary in their handing of hf and their undoubted ability to pass square wave test signals faithfully.

With all respect, I do not think it is possible based only on these tests. We may have fun and we may find some discernible differences, but it is all related to the test conditions and test chain used. Not enough to make general conclusions.

This is what I am trying to find out... because (my personal belief) is that ultimately the configurations that provide most listening pleasure are the ones that I would be prepared to use.

I think there are two conflicting issues with these tests. Yes identifying a difference is certainly one aspect, the other is "which do you prefer" and which "sound" would you rather your system reproduce.

I suppose a perfect buffer (as just an example) should generate a random ABX result such that most participants are effectively guessing. That doesn't seem to happen as yet...

I'm hoping that if enough post ABX results on the latest files (the aaa and bbb) that the circuitry could be discussed a little. Its nothing new, nothing revolutionary, just a configuration that to my knowledge has not been put forward seriously either on the forums or elsewhere. I have certainly never seen it used that I can think of 🙂
