Hi, I am looking for a pioneer pd-65 cd player in good shape ,preferably no scratches ,and no issues with the player, but will consider all pioneer pd-65 cd players. Also I am new to these pioneer pd-65 cd players. Can people chime in on if they are really that good sounding ,and also if the pioneer pd-75 player is the exact same sounding or was the pioneer pd-65 cd player ,the player to have sound quality wise over the pioneer pd-75. Anything ,and everything you can tell me about the pioneer pd-65 will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It is well worth studying the list attached and downloading circuit diagrams.
Other players share the same chip set and mechanism.

For example PD-S801.
There does seem to be a pattern of changing mech. as the went *01 *02 Etc,
But I do not know if any one is better.
There are also "Legato link" things to consider.

The PD75 has better output stage circuitry, and the mech is absolutely beautiful, *except* that it's laser carriage *can* fall apart in shipping. The laser, the PWY1004, is a very, very common one from earlier players(used on LOTS of cheap models) that is very reliable, except for the common issue of the lens falling out, which is very easy to remedy. The PEA1030 on the PD65 has the same lens falling out issue, but ALSO has a very definite actual laser failure rate, though not a high rate. Overall, the PD75 is a much better choice.

Hi,Thanks for explaining some differences between the pioneer Pd65 and Pd 75. I say a lot of reviews o the pd 65 and only 2 on the pd 75.There were a lot of audiophiles claining that the pd 65 had a sound that was non fatigueing like a record player but very detailed. Will the pioneer pd 75 sound like the PD 65 or will it be more detailed ,and loose its non fatigueing presence like the pd65 has. Have any of you guys listened to both of them to confirm. If they sound exactly the same.According to you guys,Then the pioneer pd 75 is the better built cd player ,with better internals. Thanks

Just beware that most Pioneer Lasers including the ones listed above are no longer available, anywhere as far as I can see.

I would like to be corrected as I have a Pioneer CD Player whose Laser, PWY1011 I cannot find anywhere any more. Fortunately I have one or two spares which should keep me going.

P.

Thanks for the update about the cd laser eyes ,not being available anymore. Any more info on if the pioneer PD 75 being built with better internals, has a different sound to it when listening to it as compared to the pioneer PD 65. There are lots of reviews on the PD 65,but hardly any on the PD75. Even though the PD 75 has the better internals. Could the Sweet spot for that smooth record player sound be just with the Pioneer Pd 65. or can you guys confirm the smooth non fatiguing sound quality also comes with the pioneer PD 75 ,and the characteristic differences between the two of them. Thanks
