Hello Everyone!
I am brand new at this and very interested in building my own LCD projector, or at a minimun to start, an OHP setup using an LCD panel. But alas, I am new to this and need advice.
I just won an nview z115 on ebay for $22.50+ shipping. Unfortunately, the seller couldn't assure 100% it powers up since no power cable, or any other connectors, were available... and none will be sent. Several basic questions:
1) Are any of the connectors for the z115 proprietary?
2) Zero luck so far as to garnering any specs on this panel on the web. Has anyone had difficulties getting the power adaptor for this model?
3) Is the z115 when it's fully functioning worthwhile to use as either a projection device as designed with an OHP or in a DIY box?
4) Was a $40 total investment for this model a wise choice if it works?
I would appreciate any input from anyone with experince with this model? Thanks : )
Jonathan

As for the specs on that panel
nView Z115 640x480 16.7M(1.4M?) VGA/RCA/SVID. Active matrix.
It looks to be a pretty good panel. If it works then $40 is not at all a bad investment.
As for the connections. RCA and SVIDEO should be standard connectors. The VGA connection (if it uses a standard Nview cable which it should) is the same as the Nview Spectra C. (search the forums for the pinout schematics).

Possibly... or possibly in the position of needing to sort out a panel that will take a PAL or S-video signal *this week* (although last week would have been better)... what you might call the "beggars/choosers" scenario!
I did an early bid on that panel too.. looks like they are rare in the UK, was surprised at the final price!
Ah well, I'm messing with a commercial projector for now instead 🙂
guessmustbe, did you win it then?

I did indeed. phillip0101 has a valid point (the one about the final price - the other I'm reluctant to concede!) in that it was a good deal more than I was hoping to pay, but I suppose these things happen when you need something in a rush. I've had some reasonable bargains on eBay over the years, so I'll look on this as balancing things up a bit.
"If you buy a used Overhead Projector on ebay for about £30 to £60 and this z115 panel you would have upto a 50 foot video image from your computer / DVD"
lmao.... try and create a 50 foot image with it, then tell the seller you want a partial refund because of misleading advertisment!

Sure. Well, I was tempted to drop an extra quid on it at the last minute actually - ebay is terrible like that, for impulse purchases. Even though you have days to research the product, I always seem to be frantically weighing up the worth of items in the last seconds!

hi there, im sorry for the "dumb" comment, i dont mean it personally. 🙄 i didnt actually think i would end up speaking to the person who brought it... although thinking about it... who else would wanna buy a projection panel these days except DIY projection people who all hang around on diyaudio.com lol
im trying to dig my way out of this hole i seem to have fallen into lol 😀
sorry bud!
Don't worry about it! Please consider yourself de-holed
(I do hope that doesn't have some dubious alternative meaning).
As I said before, when I started bidding I thought I'd wind up spending about £40-£50. If I'd been a bit more reckless a few days before I might have got hold of a decent 3M panel (model escapes me now but 1024*768 resolution - I _think_) for about the same as I paid for this one. Oh well, live and learn!
Having said that, it's still about half the price quoted for the replacement lamp for another projector a friend has; bearing in mind this one "goes up to 50 feet" I may still have grounds for smugness. (That's probably a cue for the sort of performance that suffers if an enthusiastic firefly gets into the room while it's running...)

nView Z115 Panel
Hi everyone, I have an nView Z115 Panel and I got it off ebay. The panel turns on just fine however when it comes to operating it I need the users manual. I have searched all over the place to get a copy and
I still can't find one. If anyone here could point me in the right direction,
the gods will smile on them forever....LOL I would also like to take this time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years. All keep safe and healthy and may all your wishes come true.
From my family to you and yours🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 😉

Hi guy, thanks for getting back to me. I really don't have an issue at this time, it is just that I have never used the Z115 before and I like to have the manuals for all my electronics. A lot of the time the manuals have some sort of schematics at the end , which sometimes comes in handy. I am the type of person who likes to read all the manuals and be informed. So if you are willing to put yourself into an envelope and mail yourself to me i surely would appreciate it 🙂🙂🙂🙂 😀 😀 😀

I have about 3 or 4 nview z series panels in the mail right now, if there is a manual tucked in with one, I'll give you a copy.

Power cords
Well if it isn't one thing it's another. Hi all, me again. Well go figure, my dog decided to make a meal out of my power cord to my Dukane 4003
overhead projector. Do I need a special cord or what? The side of my unit says, 120 VAC 60 Hz 1.5 A 180 w max and is a three prong that fits into the side of the projector. Are these easy to get or do I have to special order it and where do I order it from? Happy Holiday Season to
all and be safe.
