Is a passive a good choice for a F5V3Turbo

Yes I will have it right next to the amp input and in my usual loud listening position I plan on keeping the total of series and shunt resistance around 10k. Just wondering whether a buffer will sound better than a simple passive with an F5V3 based on the experience of those who have already tried it? Thanks.

no problem regarding F5 an pot ;

will that be better with buffer in front of pot is more source issue - how's your DVD happy to drive 10K

Presently I use the passive with 6.8K series and around 1k to 3k shunts at my commonly used positions to drive a Hafler 9505 which has 29db gain. I find myself listening between -17db attenuation to -11db attenuation. The DVP is a Sony DVPS9000es and the resultant sound is excellent. I am planning on building the F5V3 with 26db gain bumping up from NP's 22db gain in the schematic.

I recall reading NP saying something about the capacitances of the output devices having an effect and thats why he cautions against using passives with the VFET design. I will be using Toshiba 2SK1530/201 in the F5V3. The Hafler 9505 has Hitachi 2SK1058/SJ162. Dont know whether output device capacitance is an issue here? That's why the original question whether a passive will work.

Thanks.
