Is 400W enough?

Hi guys,

I could potentially buy a 400W projector which is some sort of automated slide projector which I'd date from the 80s. Is this a good foundation for a DIY projector? I'm set to build a projector for my new living room (my renter is leaving which means I get a home theatre room). I've read quite a bit about diy projectors, but I lack any and all experience thus far. I'd assume the scope of the project would be to pull the lamp, lens, etc. and put it into another enclosure with an LCD screen. I'd need a driver board or whatnot as well, although I can likely dedicate a computer to the room so SVGA would be fine. My total budget for the project would be roughly $300 or $400 canadian.

What would this slide projector be worth to purchase? Like is it worth $10 or $150 or $300?? (assuming the lamp works). What steps should I take once/if I purchase it.

Thanks,
Pete

P.S. The room it will go in has very heavy dark drapes, so ambient light levels can be low.
