If IRFP240 = IRF240
IRFP240 spec sheet says 20A rated,
150W power dissipation in a plastic
T0-247AC package.
IRF240 spec sheet says 18A rated,
125W power dissipation in a metal
can, T0-204AE package.
I thought the metal cans were
superior ?
Or, these two parts are identical
but completely different <-- joke

The TO-3 is the top-hat we're all familiar with. (IRF240/9240 , MJ15024/15025, 2N2955/3055, etc.)
The TO-247 is the overgrown TO-220 (without the exposed metal tab) that has become popular in the last 10 years. (IRFP240/9240, MJW16006, MTW20N50E, etc.)
The TO-264 is an overgrown TO-247 with the same footprint, and is sometimes known as TO-3BPL, or case 340-G. (MJL2381A/1302A, MLJ21193/21194, MTY100N10, etc.)
The TO-247 and TO-264 are NOT the same size- they only have the same footprint. 0.225" between pins.
The '264 does have higher power dissipation ratings, though. Please correct me in I am wrong on this. Hope this helps.....😀

You are right. I just wanted to let him know that the IRF are cans and the IRFP's are plastic. How about a SMPS so I can put an Aleph in my boat? Plenty of cold water for cooling.
Sure, if you can still find some MTY10010Es, they are good for 100V bdss, 100A Id (yup, that's 100Amps drain current
) , and are in the TO-264 super case. These have been long-discontinued by ON. If no luck there, try paralleling three NTB75N06s for each side of the push-pull topology to give an Rds(on) of 3.3 milliohms! 
Use the MC33025 for the controller, and four MBR20200CTs (200V, 20A) for the output diodes. Use an MOC802 for the optoisolator and a TL431 for the voltage reference. Clock the oscillator for 100kHz (this gives a switching frequency of 50kHz), and let'er rip!😱
Use lakewater to keep things 😎 .
