Hi,
has anyone ever built this?
http://www.irf.com/technical-info/appnotes/an-948.pdf
I'm just wandering since I built a couple and found them to be quite temperamental. They don't seem to last. Has anybody had any positive results with these?
I have several complete and working boards that I'd like to sell if anyone is interested

If you take Q3 from the PCB and attach with wires to the heatsink you should have a better result.

+1 on that.
It's a reissue of old work, so modern devices with denser cell structures may need some modification. Agree with the thermal feedback and 100R gate stopper, but also note the lack of short circuit protection
There seems to be a lot missing, you'll need some low value 0R22 resistors on the sources of both output transistors to increase thermal stability (HEXFETs have a positive thermal tempco and if you don't compensate it with a little source degeneration then you're going to end up with the magic smoke coming out) 🙂 .
Also you might want a little bit of resistance on the gates to reduce chances of instability.

It looks like the Citation 12 Mosfet.

Thanks for all the comments, I must say though I'm a little out of my depth here when it comes to amplifier design. didn't do much of it when I studied electronics at Technikon and to top that I hated small signal analysis! ................ gate stopper?
