Hello,

I have just have just contacting my supplier about the IV/UR hot mirrors I play to get several 4"x4" pieces. Let me know if you are interested.

If anyone doesn't know what a hot mirror is I will explain. It is simply a piece of tempered glass with a coating that absorbs IR and UV light. It would be a very good upgrade for those of you using lexan.

hot mirror?

If it absorbs IR, then it is not a hot mirror. Hot mirror is a selective mirror coating (dichroic) that reflects >90% of the IR and passes >90% of the visible light.

If it absorbs IR, then it is a normal color filter like the various KGx glass filters.

A hot mirror does not get hot itself, because it reflects what it doesn't pass. An absorbant filter does get very hot, because all that short wave IR contributes energy to the filter glass. Works fine, but you need fan air flowing over both sides of the glass to cool it down.

$50 for a 4" square sounds like Rosco Hot Mirror. If that's your supplier, it is great stuff. I have the Rosco 5.25" diameter round hot mirror, and it is the best IR filter I have tried.

BHphotoVideo.com has various sizes in their online catalog.
