Introduction and Yamaha MX-50

Hello!

This is my first message to the Forum so a little introduction is in order. I am 39.9 years old (40 next week!) and involved with electronics since I was 9, when I built my first tubed amp (a 1 tube job!). Curiously enough, after that amp came a 2 tube unit and then my life went by other venues. I am Telecommunication Engineer and enjoy a lot working on communication and test equipment gear, as my WEB could should you (you can check it at: EB5AGV WEB )

I have spent all these 30 years in several things but none audio related. But just about two weeks ago, a friend who is also a radio amateur, took to my home repair shop a nice Yamaha T-1 tuner... and that was the beginning of my new disease 😉 !!!

He offered it to me for free and then he told me about the Yamaha M-70 he has along a Yamaha C-65 preamp. He told me also that I could take his Yamaha C-45. Not a bad start 🙂 !. So I checked eBay (Germany site, as I am in Spain and it is by far the best in old Europe) and found a nice Yamaha MX-50 for a reasonable price... so I bought it. It has arrived today and I have not yet had the time to check it but I have researched a bit and have found that it is not a Class-A amplifier, as I initially thought. But it seems there is a mix of opinions about it. I would like to hear your comments.

I have got a pair of NOS RA Labs Mini Reference which I have checked with a Harman/Kardon PM-655VxI receiver, used only as an amplifier, with the Yamaha C-45 preamp. IMHO, they sound pretty good.

Well, this is all for now. Thanks for this nice Forum!

Regards,

JOSE
