Hi,
I'm getting into HiFi and speaker building, looking to make either a Joseph Crowe horn system or a full range build from either Cube, Voxativ,or Lowther.
I recently acquired a Decware SE84UFO2 and believe this should be fine for driving any of the above.
I have took a few courses in electronics in community college and may start up a DIY amp or pre-amp project someday. I am curious to learn about building first-watt clones to see how that flavor compares to tubes. Currently I have a Schiit Bifrost DAC and a Magnius headphone amp/pre.

Welcome to diyAudio :^)
Those first builds? Ambitious. I’d add Sonido to that list, but it is always advisable to start with something more modest. What you learn with driver selection, box design/selection, box uild, and then experiencing what you have built is invaluable. Real cheap, excellent value, lots of box examples i suggest CHN-50 or CHN-110 from Markaudio.
The Decware gets lots of hype, far from the best SE84 amp out there — a really good one probably means build your own.The Shitt DAC on the other hand is at the other end of the value equation, an amazing DAC for dirt cheap.
Have fun!

Thanks Dave.
I'm curious what your opinion is on a speaker build choosing between a Cube F10 Select, Lowther PM6A, and a Voxatv AC-1.9.
I also came across this quote from Nelson Pass that I'm seeking to better understand:
I'm not sure what he means by "a little Eq and adjustment". This feels like something I should know about if I'm going to build one of these systems.
Thanks again,
Alex

I have a pair of F8 Magus here, and I like them very much. I would put them in the same rank as my Feastrex D9's, Lowther PM6A's, and Voxativs. All these have differences that may appeal (or not) to you, but with a little Eq and adjustment I can live with any of them.

Noe of the above. If i was to explore that end of things i would start with the Sonido 6x9.
The Cube 10” gets some love but 10” and double whizzer cones makes no sense. And a bit irritating to see the prices triple when they went to distribution.
Vocative … i’d really really want to hear them.in a known environment before morgaging the house for them.
Lowther has been around forever … i would like to hear a set of the PM6a Low-Kens.

But i am very happy with the A7.3eN and MAOP 7 WAWs i have. 4-5”, no whizzer is the sweet spot for fullrane speakers. And adding woofers to both give as much bass as you want to afford, and improved midTop when the FR is high-passed. Given the struggles with most Lowthers to get bottom out of them you often see an OB with Lowther midTop and big woofer(s) for bass support.
As an afterthot, it seems you may be weighting your hifi dollars far to heavily towards loudspeakers.

Where can you buy Sonido drivers in the US, just email their website? I don't see a 6x9 on the site but there is a 096A with a bass reflect box design:
I was considering something from Mark Audio after hearing a lot of good things about the Pearl Acoustics Sibelius speaker. What are some design builds you can recommend for the Mark Audio drivers? My concern here is the lower sensitivity may not work out for my SE84 amp.
The build that is really peaking my interest is this Joseph Crowe system:
https://josephcrowe.com/products/speaker-plan-no-2155
Main hesitation here is getting the horns milled, he can do it but it's just south of $2k. Not sure if the value proposition here is worth it. I can mill my own, but it's a 6 week course here at the local maker space. Tuition is $884 plus the monthly $250 membership, so if I do it myself I'm still 6 weeks out, 18 hours of my life spent in class, and after materials I may come out ahead only about $400 (though I will have that training under my belt for future builds if I choose it)
I've seen the debate between how to allocate cash, some say spend more on speakers, other say electronics and source. I set off siding with more on the speakers than the electronics, but I'm not married to the idea. I've already settled in on the Decware SE84UFO and Shiit Bifrost DAC, but I could push some cash out of the speakers and into a streamer or maybe better tubes. I was planning on just running Volumio through a raspberry PI. I have no plans on getting into vinyl. Cabling is planned to be very basic, just standard power cables and BlueJeans speaker wire and interconnects.

6x9 on the site but there is a 096A with a bass reflect box design:
That is the one. The drivers are relatively cheap since they ship direct (competitive Cubes were much the same price before they went to distribution)
The box is not a reflex it is an ML-TL and misses a lot. Thaty they claim ot is a reflex it is immediatly suspect.

20x107x32 cm
The build that is really peaking my interest is this Joseph Crowe system:
Completly different beast, a big direct radiator with a horn tweeter. I tend to respect Joesph’s designs, but the bracing in his box sucks.
Here a box for the similar size TAD

dave
The box on Crowe's 2155 system is only 25" tall, maybe he didn't think it necessary to go full diffusion panel (scatter plate) on the smaller box design. He has another design with a much larger box that uses the diffusion panels:
https://josephcrowe.com/products/cabinet-plans-for-lii-audio-f15
That box for the TAD looks very robust. Being a newb, there is a great appeal to doing something like this Crowe 2155 that is an A-Z plan, with support from the designer.
I can't find that Aquincum design on the Woden site. From the snip you have, it hardly has any difference from what the Sonido design looks like.
