Intro

I am a new member here, and I gather that protocol calls for a self-introduction, so here we go...

I got interested in audio electronics more than fifty years ago. Originally I had planned to be an EE and started studying that, but then got interested in physics and went that way instead. However, I still build and work on electronics for fun and have a workshop at home where I do electronics and metalworking.

When I was an undergraduate student in 1977, I got a summer job working at Great American Sound (GAS) in Chatsworth CA. My interview was with Edward Miller, among the questions was "what does 3db mean". I think he hired me after asking me to draw a schematic for a constant-current source and I was able to do that. I still have a Thaedra preamp which I built myself on the assembly line, the last night before I left to go back to school in Fall, with some help from Andy Hefley, who was the VP at the time. I also have a Son of Ampzilla in the attic, I need to dust that off at some point and perhaps get it working properly again.

Anyway, my wife and I are doing some rearrangement in our living room, which makes space for me to put a decent audio system in there. So I've dragged out a bunch of 30-year-old gear from storage and am putting it back into use. This includes some Audio Concepts loudspeakers, a Parasound HCA-1200 amplifier, and a Sony CDP79ES CD player. They still sound good together!

I'm going to be posting some info and questions about the HCA-1200 in another thread.

Cheers,
Bruce
