Internal Area of a Cylinder

I'm planning to build a speaker system using PVC pipe. I used an online calculator to figure the area (in inches) of a circle per instructions. Do I take this sum and multiply by inches (Per calculated I.D.) to get the internal area?

Calculate area of a circle and its circumference. What is Circle?

Example.. Thinking 6" I.D. PVC pipe..

A 6" circle has an area of 28.27" per the calculator. (Using a 3" radius)

My goal is ~.2 sq. ft. of internal area. (345.6")

If I divide the area of the circle into the desired internal area, I come up with 12.22" in length.

Does this sound correct?

Thanks in Advance!

If he wants to know the volume of the speaker box to allow modeling of his vented speaker, then he needs the internal volume of the box and MUST subtract the EXTERNAL volume of the port and subtract the wasted volume of the speaker driver and subtract the volume of all internal braces and panels.

Thanks, godfrey. Guess I'd better learn the correct terms to run with the big dogs..

I already built a tool box "Boom Box" with the drivers but I plan to change the shape and be more scientific about it. I have almost .2 ft. of volume in half of the tool box divided in two separate chambers (half of the bottom of the tool box) ported with a 2" length of 1" I.D. PVC. (Driver/Port in each side) I overlooked the volume of the driver and the port and I don't have any room to expand, hence, the PVC challenge..

Here ya go, Cal. It's not pretty but it works. Not quite finished with it yet but it's sweet..

I built it for a test fixture. I purchased a couple of sets of speakers (unheard) and got stung! I now have a way to test, even if the seller doesn't have a way to hook them up..

The switch in the center transfers the output of the amp to the speaker connections and disconnects the internal speakers. I can tell if a speaker is junk or not with a few watts.. 😉

To Add..
The box is separated in the center with a piece of 3/4" plywood.. (8x8x6 Approx.)
