Here the Id vs Vgs curves at room temperature.
Red is N-FET, blue is P-FET.

The only thing which matters is the slope as the intercept can be set with a potentiometer. You can change the slope by paralleling devices.

The slope and the difference in Vgs happens to balance out in the original F5.
So no need to balance the slope in this particular case.
