They usually work very well.
The only time I have had a problem is with swarf getting into the mix and that is disasterous for the amp. I now always do a multimeter check between drain and heatsink for shorts before powering up.
I had a bit of swarf once stuck in the insulator and couldnt see it, replacing the insulator cured the problem. It was definitely swarf because the multimeter measured a short.
