I've taken the plunge by getting an LCD panel - Nview Spectra. My next step is the OHP.
The long-term plan is to go completely DIY, but for the moment I want instant results (so my better half will contribute to funding the project!). Sometime soon after getting an OHP, I would like to get a Metal Halide light, so I have a couple of questions. Should I get the cheapest OHP with a triplet lens that I can find or should I get the fanciest? For example, should I get a 3M 9200 or hold out for a 3M 9800 if the lighting guts are going to get changed in the next step?
As to the lighting, would the 250w MH be satisfactory, or should I go for 400w?

MH overhead projectors
If you are going to go for metal halide, why not look for a overhead projector with metal halide to begin with. There's a ton of them on ebay right now and you can find some really nice ones with a triplet and MH. It just takes a little research. I would only look into the ones that I could see had a triplet, the seller says has a triplet, the company website says has a triplet or as much of that as possible. Then you have a good set of materials to start with when you build your own. I wish I had done that.
