I am planning to install two 100 mA panel meters in the SE I’m building. I read somewhere on this forum that I can put the meters in place of R18 and R29.
Can someone confirm that?
Thanks, Jacques

I purchased these meters from Ebay
1PC 45mm DC100mA Moving Coil Panel Meter For KT88 2A3 300B Vintage Tube Audio | eBay
I was looking for something small. They look nice. They took forever to get here from China.

Nice.. this sounds like a good idea. I am planning some for my build also. Any pictures to show us yet?
Those look like the ones you can buy from Parts Conexxion for maybe $2 more. Let us know how they turn out.
I have the same meters; wired them in yesterday but when running the checkout today didn't get any reading on them with the output tubes in and speakers attached.
It's possible I hadn't tightened the connections at the back sufficiently so I'll check that.
To calibrate the meters when I do get them working, do I still measure across the connection with the DVM like I did when it was a resistor in there?

I did not need to calibrate the meters. I had measured with the DVM before I removed the resistors and the reading from the meters was accurate. I did need to adjust the zero reading on one of my meters. I've been running mine at 28. they seem to be doing the job just fine.
colnago, I too had measured before I installed them but also before I added a different value C5 and removed R4 to put the choke in so I wanted to check what the DVM said and compare it to what the meters said.
I'll tighten them up and see if that works then try and measure again.

The reason to have these meters on the TSE is that one needs to adjust the bias on the power tubes. My understanding is that the SSE was designed with fixed bias, so there is no need to adjust the bias.
I'd defer to others as to where they would go in the SSE circuit.

True the sse is pre biased , was hoping to add additional vintage look to a vintage style amp.
If anyone has managed to get these meters working on an sse please let me know.
Or if a suitable Vu meter would be better I would consider swapping these in.
Thanks

Try putting the meters in series with the cathode resistors of the power tubes, R27 and R17, and see if that works for you.

Thanks w5jag, I've tried this and the results were no sound.
Never test with a Philip Glass album 😀
