Install Question

I plan on putting a stereo system in my Tahoe .

I will be running 2 Digital Designs 18” sibs off 8,000 watts .

My Question is I have an older A/D/S P840.2 amp which is an 8 channel .

Amp is rated at 8 x4 rms or 120x4 rms or 60x8 at 2 ohm stereo

I plan on running soem6.5” components in the front doors and possibly some in the kick panels

I’m wondering if this amp will be able to keep up with the amount of bass there is going to be or should I look for a more powerful amp ?

I want the mids and highs to blend into the system and not have the bass over power the system as far as having to much bass and not enough mids and highs

Should have worded it better .

What I meant was will this amp be fine or will the bass over power the mids and highs ?

I want to be able to hear the component sets loud and clear and not have the bass over power them .

Basically I know the bass is gonna be loud in the truck I just don’t want the mods and highs to be over powered by the bass and sound like I have them hooked up to a head unit with very little power

I've seen 2 12s on about 1500w in a truck like that and the highs you mentioned would have been overwhelmed.

Unless the 2 18s are wired out of phase, those highs will not be enough to equal the output of the 18s on 8kw.

To produce anything near the output of that lows system, you'll need 1000s of watts into very efficient speakers (the type used for public address, live music).

All of this assumes that you'll be wanting to use the bass at its limits.

I have several old Hifonics Zeus VII laying around collecting dust .

Since these amps don’t have crossovers I’m wondering if I can use those for my mids and highs amps ?

I’m wondering this since I had a old colossus xi that did have crossovers and I tried using it for my mids and highs and it sounded awful even when the crossover in the amp was set to full range and I used an external crossover

I also have a hifonics Boltar and Olympus both series 8 amps here .

They both need work on them but I think I’m gonna use those for the mods and highs amps .

Should I replace all of the capacitors in both amps ?

I know some of these amps had issues with leaking caps

As of right now I don’t see any signs of the caps leaking in either amp

If you don't see any signs of leaking, that's good news for the board. That said, you should, at the very least, pull the primary supply caps to see if there is any sign of leakage under the caps.

I don't know if the series 8 had the problem. I didn't see many series 8 amps and even if I did, they were essentially new.
