Input Question

I want to configure an auxiliary input for an active preamp to accept headphone outputs from from CD players, mp3 players, etc.

Is it worth doing a voltage divider, or placing series resistors to properly load the headphone output of a source device, or do you just connect it directly to the preamp's input?

Thanks

Hi lhwidget
You are treading a path I painfully scouted. IMO line and headphone outputs definitely
need an active buffer input to following stages.Forget passive networks and don't bother with common emitter config. input. Use the most suitable ie emitter follower.(or FET gate follower)
You may consider bypassing your preamp with signals at this level unless its low gain.
cheers
