I actually had to buy and adapter for about 145$ to convert composite and svideo to the dvi input it has. (or if its not dvi, whatever input it has).
sounds more like VGA input (analog) but it is possible that it is dvi. i cant imagine that there would be an adapter that would allow s-video to dvi input as this is analog to digital. if it is truly dvi, then even the composite to dvi adapter is not great unfortunately because the dvd player converts the digital data to analog before going composite out, then sends analog data to dvi adapter, then converts back to digital.
dvi to dvi is the way to go it looks like to me, but you gotta have a dvi output on the dvd player to begin with for it to be worth using the dvi in on the projector OF ANY TYPE (diy or commercial)
id recheck the input on the projector. do a search and find out what a dvi port looks like, they look nothing like a 15 pin vga port.
that way you would know for sure. 🙂

Done and done. http://www.marathoncomputer.com/images/dvi.gif is a picture of the port.

The specs for my projector can be seen on this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2749222820&category=25321

That one is going for over 400$ i got mine for buy it now 375$ and the woman said it has a brand new bulb. You might want to go a model higher to get true xga or more. That one only has 800x600 max 1280x760 but it should be good enough for me.

Oh and here is the adapter http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3044091745&category=3319

Looks alot like dvi to me... to bad i most likely wont use it.

well, i checked the specs.
dvi? yes and no.
this is an older model compaq with some nice features (keystone correction, tilt, etc...)
drawbacks i see
1. while the image can be zoomed in and out, the lens cannot!
this will mean to make the image bigger or smaller, you have to physically move the projector foward or back, not adjust a trim ring on lense(like x1) it only has a focus ring
2. it only has vga in - period. while supports dvi DATA in via vga, it does not appear to have an actual dvi port. (neither does the x1), however, it also doesnt even have a rca or s-video port. while you can get around this by using the adapter, (which forces everything to be converted to analog) the big time down side is that you can only hook up 1 input device to the projector at a time. that is unless you use something like a tv-3000, etc...
the x1 is ok because you get vga in, rca in, s-video in. you can have three devices hooked up at one time and switch between them. something to think about if you want to semipermenantly mount the projector somewhere. i would definately use the tv-3000 with this thing to make life easier, then you dont have to buy all those adapters. cheaper too.

Yea thats Kinda shady how companies do that to force you to buy adapters( caugh Inflcus powerview 820) but at leats the Infocus panel has Video In without the " wonderful" cable wizzard. My proxima is great If your looking for a older XGA projector I have the 9210 and it works well, It has power everything. Tho the one thing its lacking is beter keystoning correction My projector is Mounted 8 ft from the floor and is angled down somewhat and it corrects it some but you can still see that its not a true rectangle. Crap one of these days I will take pics of My HT and post em here, I still have to get the reproduction movie posters( prob old classic ones) and get them in there, and a little more fabric and such and I will be set, Its good Now But just a tad to ghetto so we are trying to jazz things up a bit, Oh yea and I think im gonna be able to get some of those Isle rope things you find in theaters.........do those things have a actual name????????

I got my compaq projector yesterday. Its amazing! I didnt even imagine how great it would look. Maybe even better than the movie theatre?... though a bit smaller of course. I did notice slight rainbows, but for the quality im willing to compromise. With an image of about 7-8 feet diagonal, i noticed no pixelation, it as like a picture when i paused the movie. I used my laptop and to play dvds, trailers were great to watch. I dont have my stereo hooked up yet, but i cant wait to do it. Now i need a new screen, Im using blackout cloth but my friends mom is supposed to get me a pull down one from her school... anyway im getting off track. I HIGHLY recommend this projector or any dlp for that matter, neither my ohp with panel or commercial lcd projector could even compair. I will post some results sometime.

thanks for the tips. The reason i want a pull down screen is because its over my big window. I really dont have much space in my room for a screen so i decided to put it there. So i would like to be able to roll it away (hung from the ceiling) whenever its not used. Also the blackout cloth screen i made, i think its 5x5 feet just isnt big enough (by about a foot).

poohbear checkout Home Depot if u have one in your area I picked up 2 window shades that cost $79 and $48 but i got both for $5 each yellow tag. Believe it or not. One is 73 inches wide other is 53 inches wide and they work great, both is matte white.

damn, sounds like you got an awsome deal. How big horizontally and vertically is your screen? did you put them together? Im still leaning toward the roll up screens that schools use, because they are so easy to hide when not in use, of course there will be a big metal thing hanging from my ceiling but it should save me alot of space. Im supposed to get it today, i hope its big enough. I wonder if i could paint the surface with something to get optimum results... It should work fine how it is though.
