Infineon Tech acquire GaN Tech (new direction for their Class-D production)? "maybe"
It'll be interesting to watch/see what they do with their future production of Class-D amp chips.

Note no mention of audio products in the press release. I doubt Infineon care about that market for these products.
Don't know about that, they're already spruiking about GaN on their "Class D Audio Amplifier" page/parts.

All I said they were "spruiking" about GaN on their "Class D Audio Amplifier" page.
Nothing else, talk about aggressionInfineon Tech
"The CoolGaN™ 400 V e-mode HEMTs portfolio is specifically built for class D audio requirements, with high performing SMD packages to fully utilize the benefits of gallium nitride."

Not agression, just pointing out that your OP didn't make any sense.
BTW the latest link says under 'Applications' Gallium nitride target applications include USB-C adapters and chargers, TV power supplies, server and telecom SMPS, solar and energy storage systems, motor drives, robots and drones, and more.
Funny no mention of audio yet again.

The above quote in my last post comes from Infineon.Funny no mention of audio yet again.
You put a web link in and then a quote after it which does not appear in the page you linked. That's bad etiquette before we even start on the fact that Infineon clearly view audio as a low volume market compared to the other areas they are targetting. Just pointing it out.
I started this thread for future Class-D offerings that "could" come anlong from Infineon, for others to read.

Look down that page under "Application Brochure" --

Relax please. Im sure some great audio chips will come out of it even there are plenty of such already.
Cheers!
Cheers!
CoolGAN and as far as I can tell all the GAN on Infineon's website is their own pre-existing GAN line.
GAN Systems' line is still on their own website (which features Infineon branding as well). There, they have a case study on Orchard Audio's GAN class-D amps.
My favorite thing here is that Infineon did this with all cash.

As said they are half as powerful in watts as the the others atm, being only 250W@8ohm but still doubling to 500w@4ohm, early days yet bet that those figures grow in the futureThere, they have a case study on Orchard Audio's GAN class-D amps.
US$830 million!!! who has that kind of spare change hanging around. My favorite thing here is that Infineon did this with all cash.

Hi,
Not a lot of difference between the GaN amplifiers and Hypex Nilai or Purifi performance which use MOSFETs.
Regards,
Shadders.

Class D. See here for some implementation details and they have links to AP measurements on the product pages.
especially useful in high-frequency and high-power applications, like in audio power amplifiers.
Calling audio Class-D audio amplifiers "high-frequency" switching, is rather cute. 😀
It's also not really high power, well yeah maybe for 4-10kW pro amplifiers.
This is also where those things make a bit more sense, because even at 90-95% efficiency with MOSFETs that's still quite a lot of heat dissipation.
