Inexpensive Guitar Amp

If the donor has an 8" speaker, chances are better than average that I would put a Weber speaker in it. They sell several lower cost speakers in 8" sizes, and Fender even buys from them on certain models.

Second Choice would be a Jensen Mod series

For Donor's you can use just about any practice amp box, Fender Frontman, Squires, Crates, Peavy, Homebrew

Watch garage sales, thrift stores, Craigslist eBay and take your time, the $5-$10 specials turn up all the time.

Eli,
I may be late to the dance but I'll mail you a JAN RCA 12SJ7 NIB just to say thanks for the years of advice you have given me. The metal tube is printed VT-162, date code H5E.

My son built a Champ when he was 13 or 14. I bought a SS combo off of Craigslist for cheap and pulled out the PCB. I punched a few octal holes and he wired up a octal Champ (5Y3, 6SL7, 6L6). About 3.4 watts. This was with *all* junk parts including a very old Merit open frame OPT. It had to cost less than $50.
