What effect does the gage of wire have on the acoustics of a passive crossover? I see that the thicker the gage to lower the resistance and higher the power rating. I have a crossover network that calls for a 16awg 1.5mf @ 0.4ohms, can I substitute it with one that is say, 14awg 1.5mf @ 0.22ohms? What effect will this have on the crossover network?

yet another case where size does matter
The upper size limit is only a matter of space/-money....both space and money will become an issue if you wanna get much under 0.15 ohm.
If you wind it of 2.5mm wire you get approximately 0.15 ohm for a 1.5 mH air core inductor.
