indoor/outdoor and Dayton ND90-8

newbie here-bought the Pyle 40 watt amp. Just need a simple setup to use where speaker will be set up under a protected eve by the deck outside, removed and brought inside unless using it.

The full range Dayton has aluminum cone, and others I've seen have some composite cone. Is this a consideration for limited outdoor use or not to worry? Also, how is the best way to determine if sealed box or ported (screened to keep bugs out), and internal volume for each option. Or, how to determine inside volume enclosure requirement for sealed vs. ported.

Have no problem making box and putting in baffles/ports if necessary, I make furniture. Would like to spend $50 each on pair of decent full-range drivers. Have enough box material laying around. Any recommendations and comments please. (I know the Pyle is bare bones...)

Thank you.

You could make a box yes, but I doubt it would sound good. Making speakers is an art. I would not try making your own cabinet or speaker unless you are working off of a proven "project" or know a good amount about cabinet design and have the testing matierals and software.

You may be better off buying something designed for outdoor use.

Thanks Hons, I'm too much of a maker to just buy something....buying something isn't much fun. I'm not an artist, but I can follow direction. Just looking for advice on how to get the "proven project" information. The formulas are a bit above my knowledge, that's all. Jeez. Let me make a box, I'm the one that has to live with it.

Ghetto Fabulous!

Now that's DIY!

Aurasound 3" NS3-193-8A speakers in Kirkland Mixed Nut 2 liter enclosures, semi-sealed and stuffed with rotting foam bed pad, driven by the little Dayton DTA-1 T amp.

Seriously this was just a little test of concept for a computer sound bar I intend to build. Sound was pleasant and balanced, and best on axis in this nearfield application. The wife said "I can hear bass!", but then she was comparing to her laptop's built in speakers.
