Hi, i am searching a link that i found few years ago.
It was nothing but a CD player made with a PC cd player, and was using a PIC microcontroler to talk to the unit, with an external LCD. It was totaly DIY, there was even the software (.asm file) to "talk" to the pc cd player. The guy was using later the digital output with its own dac.
any ideas ?
thanks a lot

Did you look through any of the existing CD-Rom threads here? It has likely been already mentioned somewhere.

It probably is. Good ideas live longer than 5 yrs. If they don't they never were that good to begin with. 😉
Try this...

Happy new year!
i am presently searching on this thread.
Well, to make it simpler, the web link was showing more how to "talk" IDE to the cd rom unit, based on a PIc micro, more than talking about cd player itself.
On the other hand, if i could find some software examples or applications that shows how to talk IDE to these units, i may be plenty ok to try few things.
btw---the link was on a personnal page, not from DIY.
thanks guys
happy new year !!!

For sure you can just buy this as a kit now,
Got mine from HK (www.diyclub.biz) came with a remote control too.
If your more interested in the end result rather than the getting there I recommend this. Of course you still need to do something to get the audio out...
Cheers
