In need of a single Dynakit Z565

So I assume you are referring to the size of the Z565 limiting it's low end performance at maximium power output, Yes I would agree, however I seriously doubt anyone listens to their music with the volume set to max, even 10W is loud in an average sized lounge room. We are all different and we all expect different things from out music setups, a friend of mine swears by his SE PX4 triode system, 3-4W per channel, driving a pair of 2 way Electrovoice speakers, sounds very impressive with plenty of volume and very easy to listen to, each to his own.
 
I believe that the MPS transformer is the same physical size as the original dynaco Z565. It seems like it must be some other aspect that reduces the LF performance. Possibly the lamination alloy is different or something else but I surmise it isn't size. Unless maybe the lam stack is thinner but the end bells take up more space which makes them the same size overall. Pure speculation on my part.
 
I agree. The size of the MPS is the same as the original Z565. However, the winding method is different from the original. The sound does not reach the original quality, especially when listening to low frequencies.
It is about the dynamics of the performance across the entire frequency range, which in the lower part of the sound spectrum does not reach the parameters of the original original.

Have you actually tested the MPS clone in comparison to the Dynaco OEM Z565, and held listening tests. If so would you mind sharing your test results here? I will be very interested in you findings; if OP will allow the slight diversion. Else perhaps we should start a new thread.

Do you have proof that the winding methods are in fact different from the original? From what I read and heard MPS tried to copy the original winding pattern exactly. MPS sells a version with only 8 & 16 Ohm secondaries exactly like original and went through many iterations to arrive at their final design. So, @nerdorama’s suggestion of difference in lamination metalurgy seems the most likely culprit, if there is any difference in results when applying the same tests to both MPS clone and OEM Z565.
 
If the OP just has the one and wants another for a stereo pair then it makes sense to use the same transformer rather than a copy/clone, original Z565's do turn up on Ebay, I've often seen them - just a matter of checking each day and being patient, one will turn up eventually.

Of course, I measure and listen to all OPTs in detail.
Just for my information about the winding method of the MPS transformer.
To do this, just remove the cover of this transformer:

and look at the uncovered Z-565:

When making the Z-565, you need to stuff two transformers into the core and connect them in parallel.
The trick is that you can make a transformer on a small core that is capable of delivering up to 20 W RMS at 20 Hz. Here is what you hear in the unique presentation of low sound frequencies.
As you can see, the OPT MPS has a core filled to about 60%, which is something completely different.
The Z-565 is the best thing I have ever held in my hand and had the honor of not only measuring it, but also listening to it.
 
Hmmm! So you are saying the Z565 that you are considering the real deal, is a new clone made in EU by someone not mentioned yet. And the MPS version is therefore not wound like the original Dyna Z565, because it looks different from the new EU clone?

Nice looking new clone though. Tell us more about it.
 
I wound a Z565 copy back in Nov '23, the windings are a tight fit, the turns count and wire size for the original 8/16 ohm secondaries fit nicely, I found 8/4 ohm secondaries a bit problematic and not so easy to fit, the completed windings did indeed use all of the room available in the winding window, I'm no stranger to transformer winding - if MPS can wind a Z565 copy and still have daylight showing between the windings and laminations then they are better at it than me.
Having said that I have no reason to doubt that the MPS Z565 is a true copy after all I'm only a DIYer using a 60yr old Aumann winding machine where they more than likely have CNC controlled winders with fancy de-spoolers and wire tensioners.
