".....................I now have these in open baffle ...................."

How does it sound now ? Did you alter the crossover or is it the same as you had on your web site ? I guess you do use a sub . If so where do you cross over .
Cheers.

Wilbur,

Yikes! I had a look at my old audio site and it's a bit embarrassing now! I really should get it looking half decent.

I'm not sure if I showed the Lpad on the tweeter that I added. Originally I wasn't happy with the top end, so I padded the tweeter, and over time have discovered a preference for a reduced treble level. That's not so relevant now since I now use Ultracurve to shape the response and I typically use 2.5db below flat on the treble.

I didn't change the crossover to go to OB. What I did is use ultracurve to boost the transition. They roll off around 200-300 Hz and I cross at 80 Hz to the subs. In the past I wasn't able to cross that high but the Rythmik subs are happy to cross that high. Excursion isn't a problem for the midbass drivers, and I also have a high pass on them. As a result, I get no less output than box speakers. I merely use a little more excursion.

The open baffle sound is such that I don't think I can ever go back. I love the imaging, the deeper sound stage, the larger sweet spot, the lack of box coloration and the disappearing speaker realism I get from them. They sound far better in crappy not properly build chipboard 12mm baffles than I had before in very solid fancy transmission line boxes.

Now when I listen to box speakers, I usually hear the boxiness immediately. I didn't notice it before I went to OB. I also find the sound more easily tied to the box. My OBs have a very stable image, which doesn't collapse easily when you move side to side. The sound also changes less as you move around the room.

I used to think my TLs could disappear and image well. But when I put the drivers back in their pretty TL boxes, I just couldn't live with the sound. It sounded small, as if the big wide and deep sound stage had suddenly collapsed back into speakers.

My approach is very similar to the Nao mini.

The crossover on my website tends to have a bias towards power handling with the high xo point. I suspect an improvement would be to design a waveguide then cross lower, ideally attempting to match polar response with the waveguide.
